The Roussillon and Languedoc

The Roussillon and Languedoc

This is a fairly massive area in south central and southwestern France, the majority of which was once part of Catalonia, is now lumped together under the misnomer 'Languedoc-Roussillon'. In its noblest expression, the old vine Grenache, Syrah, and Carignane vines of the region offer a richness and complexity that is of the world's finest values. Its white wine varieties also offer singular and complex values: Macabeo, Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, Picpoul, and Muscat. Its noblest appellations (IMHO): Minervois, Pic St Loup, the Cotes Catalanes, les Terrasses de Larzac, and la Clape.
