Red Burgundy-Cote de Beaune

2015 Parent Beaune 1er cru Epenottes

The Cote de Beaune is the southern half of Burgundy's famed Cote D'Or. Pinot Noir is THE red wine, informed by more than a thousand years of knowledge accrued by the Cistercian monks who cultivated this 'undesirable' farming land. It stretches from Ladoix north of the town of Beaune, all the way down to Maranges. Its red wines are most celebrated from the villages of Volnay, Pommard, Savigny-les-Beaune, Beaune, Chorey-les-Beaune, and Aloxe Corton.

Price: $65.00

As we start with the northern vineyards, this rarely seen bottling is a continuation of the Pommard Epenots vineyard as it straddles the border with Beaune. In their own words: "Intense and brilliant in color. Very expressive and elegant. This climat is situated at the border between Pommard and Beaune produces a wine that unites the finesse of one with the power of the other." As Allan indicates, this is reference point stuff, "potentially one of the best examples of the vineyard that I have ever had"......
"(from two parcels of vines – one of 60+ year old vines and the other from 30+ year old vines). A strikingly fresh and ripe array is composed by notes of various red berries, earth and a pretty floral wisp. The very round, supple and generously proportioned flavors deliver unusually good depth and length on the ever-so-mildly rustic finale. This easily transcends its normal level of quality, indeed to the point that it’s potentially one of the best examples of the vineyard that I have ever had and I especially like the excellent persistence. (90-93)/2022+" Allan Meadows -----> "particularly outstanding for their respective appellations and especially merit your attention"
