Red Burgundy-Cote de Beaune

2015 Parent Pommard 1er Epenots

The Cote de Beaune is the southern half of Burgundy's famed Cote D'Or. Pinot Noir is THE red wine, informed by more than a thousand years of knowledge accrued by the Cistercian monks who cultivated this 'undesirable' farming land. It stretches from Ladoix north of the town of Beaune, all the way down to Maranges. Its red wines are most celebrated from the villages of Volnay, Pommard, Savigny-les-Beaune, Beaune, Chorey-les-Beaune, and Aloxe Corton.

Price: $119.00

Just as Rugiens is considered the Grand cru example of the south side of the village, les Epenots is and always has been the northern side equivalent, albeit of a very different personality. Chez Parent, it is always a blend of both Grands and Petits Epenots, and is consistently of the best in the village. Its sense of Grand cru class is self evident.....In their own words: "Finesse, density, and an innate sense of harmony characterize this Grand Vin. An intense color, an expressive nose of violets and red fruits such as cherries or morellos express great complexity. The mouth is fleshy and concentrated, the tannins are silky, very fine, and elegant." This is as good as it gets, folks......Class in a glass!!
"(from both Grands and Petits). This is also moderately toasty with its very ripe aromas of earth, the sauvage and layered dark cherry and currant that are trimmed in pretty spice wisps. The rich, round and velvety big-bodied flavors brim with dry extract that serves to buffer the mouth coating tannins on the impressively well-balanced and highly persistent finish. This is a very firm but marvelously good Epenots and one to strongly consider. (92-94)/2030+" --------> "particularly outstanding for their respective appellations and especially merit your attention"

"The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru Les Epenots has an enticing bouquet with hints of kirsch infiltrating the vibrant Morello cherry and crushed strawberry fruit, a hint of blood orange in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with caressing tannin, well-judged acidity, a little confit fruit towards the finish and a lovely subtle tang of marmalade on the aftertaste. This will be a delicious Pommard from Anne Parent that should age with style. Superb." 92-94 Neil Martin
